Rukhsana Ahmed Head shotDr. Rukhsana Ahmed is associate professor and chair in the Department of Communication and research associate at the Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities, University at Albany, State University of New York, USA. At the University of Ottawa, Canada, she is adjunct professor in the Department of Communication and affiliate faculty with the Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP), Institute of Feminist and Gender Studies, and Electronic Business Programs.

Rukhsana has an interdisciplinary background with BA and MA degrees in International Relations (University of Dhaka);  MA degrees in International Development Studies and Communication Studies, and a PhD in Health Communication (Ohio University). Her research embraces the cross/trans/inter-disciplinary nature of communication scholarship, with specific focus on exploring the role of communication processes in improving health outcomes among marginalized communities and promoting broader social changes in international health contexts.

Rukhsana’s collaborative and partnership research projects have been funded by Federal Government Agencies and Not-For-Profit Organization, and she has presented and published top papers and an award winning book at the intersection of health communication, service quality, culture, and media in respected international interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary conferences and peer-reviewed publication outlets. Rukhsana is the chief editor of Health Communication, specialty section of the open-access journal Frontiers in Communication.
